CARL SUCHY & SÖHNE
With Carl Suchy & Söhne, Austria’s only historic luxury watch brand was revived. In 1822 years ago watchmaker Carl Suchy opened his first watch shop in the center of Prague. As his sons joined the family business the brand Carl Suchy & Söhne was born. Carl Suchy Junior founded a pocket watch company in the Swiss watch center of La Chaux-de-Fonds, while his brother Hans opened a shop in the historical center of Vienna. Carl Suchy and his sons soon earned the prestigious recognition of Purveyor to the Imperial Court of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, delivering their watches to the court and upper-class.
Emperor Franz Joseph I and his wife, Empress Sisi, were amongst the watchbrand’s illustrious customers. Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, famously carried his Carl Suchy & Söhne pocket watch in his vest and used it for hypnosis sessions.
In 2017, the Austrian watch brand has returned as a result of the collaboration between Marc Jenni, member of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants, designers Reinhard Steger and Milos Ristin as well as creative director and CEO Robert Punkenhofer. The new Carl Suchy & Söhne timepieces combine the unique historical legacy with contemporary design and Swiss craftsmanship.
The former Purveyor to the Royal Court was revived with a limited Series of 22 Waltz N°1 at Looshaus Vienna. Pure lines and understated elegance were the dominating features of Viennese Modernism, one of the most influential design movements of all time. Adolf Loos, one of the most prominent proponents of Viennese Modernism, inspired the design of Waltz N°1 with his puristic aesthetics and high-quality materials.
In March 2018 Carl Suchy & Söhne presented the Waltz N°1 Skeleton edition at Baselworld. Waltz N°1 Skeleton retains the visual identity of the Waltz N°1, while adding the view of the timepiece’s sophisticated automatic skeleton.
