The new Art&Idea gallery space in New York is inaugurated by the first US solo show of Mexico City based artist Javier Hinojosa, who presents a site-specific installation as well as related sculptures and drawings. He manipulates discarded everyday objects such as sofas and pallets, re-bars and construction blocks by applying cement. Through this intervention, the artist changes the physical core as well as the symbolic function of the objects. Simultaneously, he playfully intervenes in the seemingly illogical development of the urban environment by highlighting the often ignored details and aesthetics of the mega-city.
